Hello linydan57
Thank you for recommending the alumni site. It was a good experience. I was a day scholar but had a couple of boarder friends, one of them was Ralf. The other guy was Adam. He was from Karachi. I can’t precisely remember the forenames of Jan brothers but I think one of them was Suleman and the other one perhaps Dawood.
I wonder if you remember Miss Shirley, teacher of class 7. She was an amazingly beautiful woman. I was her student in class 7 and spent more time ogling her rather than looking at the book in front of me.

hello odear,
You seem to remember a lot more details than I do. Were you a day scholar or a boarder? You are right, Farley, the younger of the two Bernard brothers, was my classmate. Jackson was the older, heavyset brother with the glasses. I remember the name Ralf Lobo but have forgotton the face. I have forgotten the names of the two Khan of Kalat brothers but both had the suffix, "jan" at the end of their names. Do you remember their first names? The older of the two was my classmate and friend. If you are interested, the following link leads to an alumni organization that has five members from our old school: http://www.alumni.net/org_directory.asp?org_id=10182322&mt=s&filter=name
Any information or photos regarding any of my old schoolmates would be greatly appraciated. Thank you. Dan

Father Peter, in those days, had a small red Mazda station wagon which was also used for carrying vegetables and provisions for the boarding house. Two buses, the red bus and the green bus, use to transport day scholars. Red bus was driven by Qadir and the green by Aziz. Almost every day there was a competition among the riders as to which of the two busses arrived first, although both the drives seemed to be hardly bothered about that. The two sons of Khan of Kallat you have written about, I think one of them is the current Khan. I remember Jackson as he was my classmate. Farley must have been the younger one. One other boarder who was also my classmate was Ralf Lobo. His family was in Dubai which was not quite developed those days. There are lots and lots of sweet memories of those golden days; I think I can write a book.

I attended St. Francis Grammer Boarding School for one year in 1967 or 1968. I don't remember exactly. What I do remember is that Fr. Peter was the Principal and two sets of brothers who were my friends also attended: The Bernard brothers, Farley & Jackson from Karachi. Their father was a police official. The other two brothers, whose names I have forgotten were the sons of the Khan of Kalat. They lived in Quetta but also had a mansion (palace) in the Defence area of Karachi, near Gizri. I also knew all the other boys who lived in the boarding school that year but have unfortunately forgotten their names because it was a long time ago and my memory has faded. I left St. Francis after only one year because my father enrolled me in Burn Hall, Abbottabad. If anyone recalls anything from that time, I would like to hear from them just for old times sake.

First of all, this is NOT or was not a Pakistan army airfield but, as of now, like every prime piece of land, every lucrative business, every high-ranking civil job and every significant institution in Pakistan this place has also been successfully invaded and captured by the world’s best army. In good old days it used to be a civilian flying club know as Quetta Flying Club and the airport was called Ghurkha Airfield. The eminent Marker family of Quetta were the chief patrons of the club and if you were a student, you could have got your Glider Pilot Licence (GPL) absolutely free – all expenses borne by the club.
What I can now suggest is that the person who tagged this place as Pakistan army airfield is a bloody idiot.
